Frequently Asked Questions
What is CBD?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is one of many chemical
compounds found in the cannabis plant. Other compounds include THC
(tetrahydrocannabinol) and various aromatic terpenes. Together these are called
cannabinoids.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are compounds that
mimic naturally occurring chemicals in the body. These chemicals have effect on
the endocannabinoid system which is responsible for overall health and
well-being of the animal.
What is the endocannabinod system?
The
endocannabinoid system regulates body functions such as sleep, relaxation,
inflammatory responses, and cognitive ability. The endocannabinoid system is
most abundant in the brain and immune system.
Where do cannabinoids come
from?
Cannabinoids come primarily from 2 plants that are different strains of
the genus Cannabis: hemp and marijuana. The main difference in these plants in
the concentration of cannabinoids that they contain. The hemp plant has a high
concentration of CBD and low concentration of THC, whereas the marijuana plant
is opposite: high THC and low CBD.
What is THC?
THC is the chemical
responsible for the psychoactivity or “high” often associated with marijuana
based products.
What is CBD Oil?
CBD Oil is the concentrated liquid
extract of the hemp plant
Is CBD Oil the same as hemp oil or hemp seed
oil?
Not all CBD or hemp oils are the same. To achieve the full potential from
the product, it should contain the full sprectrum of chemicals that are in the
hemp plant. Hemp seed contains little to no CBD. Unfortunately, there is little
oversight on the manufacturing of hemp-derived CBD products, leading to
mis-labelling on some and contamination with dangerous chemicals on others.
Is CBD Oil Legal?
CBD Oil is legal if in contains less than 0.3% THC.
What conditions are CBD Oil used for?
CBD Oil can be used in a variety of
conditions where an improvement in pain, inflammation, anxiety, appetite, sleep,
and overall well-being is indicated.
Will CBD products make my pet high?
No. Premier CBD
products will not make your pet high. Our products contain less than 0.3%
THC which will not cause any psychoactive effects.
Are there side effects to CBD products?
Even at high
doses, hemp products have a wide margin of safety. If you feel your pet is
not acting right while on CBD products, please stop administration and
contact your veterinarian.
With so many CBD products on the market, how can I tell which
products are legit?
Any company selling CBD should be able to
provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each product. Each company
should have an acceptable range of variability so that dosing remains
consistent.
The COA should include:
- The cannabinoid profile: tells the amount
and concentration of each cannabinoid present.
- The terpine and flavoid
profile: indicates the quality and efficacy of the product.
- Other analysis that may be available:
- Elemental analysis: determines the
presence of heavy metals in the product.
- Pesticide and fungicide
analysis: determines if any toxic chemicals are present in the product.
- Bacterial, microbe, and mycotoxin analysis: determines if the product has
any bacteria or pathogens that could be dangerous to the pet.
